People - if you werent there - you missed out big time! The Meeniyan hall was buzzing, the drinks were flowing and the bands were playing! It's a magic hall for live music, if anyone knows of some more halls like this one please let me know - we'll be there in a heartbeat. The Distance and the town of Meeniyan played host to three of the most taleted singer/performers in Oz under the guise of 'The Sheila Sessions'. Beccy Cole, Chris E Thomas and Kate Ballantyne joined forces to basically have a stack of fun playing some songs by female artists that they love - And boy those girls sure can SING!! They lifted the roof off the old Meeniyan Hall. I think Chris Thomas hit the highest note ever attempted within those fabled walls - amazing stuff. It was such a treat to be able to sit and listen to them all up there on stage together at such an amazing venue.

Here are the girls watching The Distance from side of stage. Obviously in deep thought, pondering how a bunch of such good looking blokes all ended up in the same band together. We're not sure either girls, it was just pure luck. |
We kicked off the night with a slightly acoustic set of songs (slightly acoustic meaning that there was meant to be no electric guitars - except some stupid left handed idiot drove all the way to Meeniyan without his acoustic guitar and ended up having to use his electric throughout the set!). Our new man on the boards Simon was away at the Port Fairy Folk Festival so we brought with us the mercurial Robert Moe to fill void on boards and unleash his sexy sax throughout the set - thankyou Rob! And because we like to treat ourselves at the Meeniyan hall we once again brought the always amazing and talented John Kendall on fiddle, mando and dobro! And last but not least we had the super talented Geoff Stokes on the bass - thankyou Geoff (hope the hail storm damage isnt too bad mate!).
