Deni Ute Muster September 2006
Ok so
I'll try to keep my eyes open long enough to write something about our
trip to Deni............better go get another coffee.
Where to
start, where to start? We played on the Thursday night at the Federal
hotel, 'did I mention it was Wild Turkey promo night'? And didn't they
love it - gave the old Bundy Bear a good run on the night (they love
that stuff up there!). I can still hear Gav's new amp which was
cranked right in my ear - not that I'm really complaining as he played
like a guru and tore the stage up all night!!! After our
show down the Deni park during the day and the Federal hotel show it
was onto Musterville, population 16,000 bluey wearing, drinking party
animals from heeeeell. It was just wild, nobody was holding back, and
didn't the bar staff know it! We rocked out a set at 5pm and it was
great to know that your guitar still works even though it's covered in
3 inches of dust! Hang on.... I forgot to mention the dust, I'm still
blowing it outta my nose.
Shane isn't quite sure what colour his car is
meant to be. The dust was like some sort of nuclear fall out over the
whole festival. Even with sunglasses on it still got in your eyes. Ok I've
had my bitch about the dust so I'll move on! Did I mention the
dust..............
After our Friday night gig there was no better
place to be than finding a spot right in from of the main stage right
before The Flood came on. Well actually the place to be was back stage
drinking the free alcohol and talking to The Flood (loved those backstage
passes). Here are a few pics from our night spent in front of the main
stage...................
I reckon a lot of the things that happened will
slowly come back to me, but at the moment I'm so tired I can't remember
anything. Thank god I got a few pictures or I would have no hope. The
night finished with Daddy Cool layin down their all their classics, I'm
not sure how to do the Eagle rock, but I worked out some new moves for
myself (Pugs I might have thrown in a Napolian Dynamite move in your
honour). Before I go any further I should mention
the crew that came along just to drink cans and help us lug our gear
around all weekend. Tour specialists Lee & Marie were on hand yet
again, along with our full time roadie Rowdy (what if he was a Rowdy
Roadie?). Rob brought along Kezza just to make sure the sexy man on
sax wasn't let astray by some bluey wearing hussey!!!! And of course
the big man behind the desk Shane was in cowboy hat wearing form
(Shane I liked your old hat better...........just jokes). So thanks to all who came along and enjoyed the
weekend with us - we loved it and hope you guys did too! For anyone
who was there to witness Darren and I dance like an African tribesman
it would have been well worth it. I was going to mention the bus trip
home to the caravan park but I don't really think I would describe it
well enough for people to fully understand what went on. Once again it
was a Berocca before bed. Saturday started with another foray to the
home of the Deni big breakfast - The Crossing Cafe. And don't they do
it well, if you are ever in town make sure you pop into the cafe for
some breakfast or a pizza, or as the guys did last weekend, 60 bourbon
cans. Apparently we have to play 6 more shows there just to pay off
the bill. A big hello to everyone at the Cafe if you read this!!! see
you soon. The Saturday show at the muster was probably our
best of the trip, I think everyone was at home on the big stage and wanted
to give it one last hurrah before having to go. The crowd loved it and
were cheering for more by the end, and we woulda played all night if it
wasn't for the time restrictions! Once the show was over it was back to
the main stage once again for more rockin, drinkin and rollin. Here is a
few more pics from our time at the muster.
Oh I forgot to mention that during the day on the
Saturday Gav and I made a quick foray to the muster to play 'This Land' on
the local radio station. Gav had a case of 'muster throat' which is
apparently caused by dust, no sleep and alcohol. So we tuned down, rocked
up, jammed out and hoped that it sounded OK! Thanks to Mat at the radio
station for all your support.
The muster is full of true blue Aussies!!! So
much so that even when the National anthem is being played on the
television before the grand final all one thousand people watching it on
the big screen stood up, took off their hats and sang it with pride -
Bloody awesome!!! It was just a fantastic sight, should be more of it. And
later that night there was a 10 minute tribute to Peter Brock on the big
screens and once again everyone took off their hats and paid tribute to
the racing legend. It was a great place to spend a weekend, great people,
great atmosphere, can't wait to do it again!!
Here are a few pics of us in action at the
Federal and at the Muster - there is more pics on their way so I'll add em
as soon as I get em.
